• Almost all websites designed by Granicus have a Calendar widget on their Homepage
• All websites have (at least) 7 different Calendar widgets that can be used on interior pages
  • This page has the Calendar Grid
• In order to have an Event appear on a Page, you need to create and Publish the Event in the Calendar Component ("Site Content" drop down> "Calendar")
• The best way to organize your Calendar Events is to use Categories NOT Department tags
• Categories are built by Super Users and are divided between Content Groups to allow the creator of the Event to organize their new Event into Categories that their Content Group have access to
• Categories should make sense to the "Site Visitor" (think like a resident of your community)
• A Page shows Calendar Events in a Calendar widget, based upon the widget settings, and how you organized the Events
• A Calendar Event can be made to be "Recurring" 
• You can build many pages with a different Calendar widget on each page and show the same Calendar Event; and/or build many pages to show different Calendar Events based on Category organization
  • All Events and Meeting on Page A, Police Events on Page B, and Parks and Rec events on Page C,D and E

1. When the Page is in Edit mode > Select the white wrench for the Calendar widget
2. Choose the settings that you want for the widget and set the Categories of content you want to display > Save
3. Publish Page and begin creating new Calendar Events that push to this page based on the settings you selected for Categories

Break Down of Widget Settings-

Hide Content Area Widget in Detail view: Yes, No- 

When a Site Visitor clicks on an Event, do you want the Content Area widget of this page to still appear when viewing the details of the Event?

Display Event Location: Yes, No

When building a Calendar Event in the Calendar Component you the option to set the Event Location. This is a drop down that allows you to choose a Facility from your Facility Directory Component or "Manually enter Location". If a Location is added to the Event, the Location can also be provided below the Title of the Event in the Month Grid widget on this page.

Display Category Filter: Yes, No

All Events should be organized by Category when you build them. Do you want to allow your Site Visitors to Sort/Filter your Events using the Category Filter?

This is the most important part! What Events based on Category do you want to Include or Exclude from display on your page? What you set here is what determines the content of this widget.

Display Department Filter: Yes, No

All Events can be organized by Department when you build them. Do you want to allow your Site Visitors to Sort/Filter your Events using the Department Filter?

Build Good Categories-

• The best way to organize your Calendar Events is to use Categories NOT Department tags
• Categories are built by Super Users and are divided between Content Groups to allow the creator of the Event to organize their new Event into Categories that their Content Group have access to
• Categories should make sense to the "Site Visitor" (think like a resident of your community will they use a Department Filter to find "Public Utility" Events or would they use a Category called "Trash Pickup Day"?)

 To Build a Category- Super Users

1. Go to "Site Content" > Calendar
2. Select "Categories" tab
3. Select green "ADD CATEGORY" button
4. Choose an "Event Category Name" (City Council Meeting)
5. Choose a Color (this will only appear on the Calendar Advanced Grid widget)
6. Choose which Content Groups are able to use this Category to organize their Event
7. Save

Steps to Build an Event:

1. Go to "Site Content" > Calendar
2. Select green "ADD Event" button
3. Create the Event with adding content to the appropriate fields:
   1. Content Group- Who owns the Event and can Edit it again
   2. Title- A good title will be the base of your Event
   3. Date and Time- you can choose to have your Event Start and End on the Same date or extend it to be a multi-day Event (this is not a recurring event) and Set the time to Start and End as well
   4. Subtitle- can be useful but is not a necessity
   5. Introduction- Keep your Introduction to under 70 characters- this will appear on a Calendar Tile widget
   6. Thumbnail Image- use images that are uploaded at about 300w x 255h px. avoid using images with words- shows in the Calendar Tile widget
   7. Location- you can Manually Enter Location, or choose from a Facility in your Facility Directory which loads into this drop down
   8. Details- This is a Text Area WYSIWYG editor and can be filled with all of the details to your Event- it becomes the body of the page for this Event.
   9. Attach Supporting Documents- You can attach Documents that are Agendas or Minutes- this will display to your site visitor in the Details of the Event OR in the Calendar Meeting List widget
   10. Tags- not necessary but useful
   11. Categories- Best Practice - this is what you should use to organize your Event, all Events should have at least 1 Category
   12. Departments- not necessary but useful
   13. Member Groups- See Member Group content*
   14. Channels Section- 
   15. Publish Date- do you want this Event to appear on your website later? have it appear at the Date and Time you want
   16. Expire Date- Allow for this Event to "Drop Off" the Calendar Pages so that your site visitors are not confused by Events that have the same name but happened last year
   17. Facebook, Twitter- See "Connect Social Media Accounts"
4. Publish

Calendar Front End Page- 

Explanation and Value Options- This sets the designated page for the Calendar front end grid page.

Meaning- 

Calendar List View- 

Explanation and Value Options- This sets the designated page for the Calendar front end list page.

Meaning- Has nothing to do with this widget or page- this is for List widgets

Calendar Meeting Documents Max-

Explanation and Value Options- This sets the max number of documents that can be attached to an event as meeting documents. The value must be a number between 1-20.

Meaning- When adding a Agenda or Minutes to the Calendar Event- you can add up several versions of the agenda/minutes to the event.

Event Recurring Max Count-

Explanation and Value Options- This sets the max number of event recurring. The value must be a number between 1-100.

Meaning- Do you want to create a "base event" like a City Council Meeting that happens  every Wednesday at the same time and the same place?  this variable allows you to set a Max count for that setting

Event Registration-

Explanation and Value Options- Enable/Disable Event Registration feature.

Meaning- Turn on or off the ability to make ANY or ALL Events something that site visitors can RSVP to join.

Event Registration Notification Email-

Explanation and Value Options- This email address will receive an email whenever anyone registers for an event.

Meaning- This is the email address that will receive all RSVP notifications from events that have been set for Registration.

Event Submission-

Explanation and Value Options- Enable/Disable Event Submission feature.

Meaning- Allow site visitors to send you an event that you can then publish on the calendar.

Event Submission Manager-

Explanation and Value Options- This value defines the event site administrator email. A link to this email will be included in any event submission.

Meaning- The email address that receives an email when a site visitor chooses to submit an event that you can review and then Publish on your calendar.
